How Nigerians feasted on stranded whale on Bayelsa shore.

Butchering of the stranded whale still ongoing in Brass Island, Bayelsa State, 3 days after.

It was a great feast on shore when a whale was washed into the riverine land of Okpoama in Beyelsa, southern part Nigeria on Sunday KBJOJO News gathered.

The  unlucky whale believed to have swept off shore in the early hours of  Sunday  has been estimated in size of over 120 yards long was reported to have been swept to the beach in the communities of Okpoama and Onyekia in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State.

Many of the community members were seen calling on their neighbouring communities outside Okpoama to come and share in the feast as at Tuesday, KBJOJO News gathered.

Reactions has been trailing the feasting on the unlucky fish.

“In saner climes, they will rescue the whale and escort it back to deep waters, commented Hon  Abayomi Fakorede.

Our Columist, Dr Okoro Kelechi Lucius remarked with humour that:


“Tthe whale actually committed suicide by venturing into Nigeria continental shelf in the midst of hunger in the land.”


KBJoJo  News  Correspondent Ajao Musa  Bolaji on his social media page posted pictures of stranded whales in similar circumstances around the world, as follows:

“In a feat worth being included in Worlds Book of Records, Bayelsa Citizens have finished eating the body of a stranded Whale in Bayelsa State – as the fish weighing about 38,000Kg has been reduced to a mere Skeleton in just about 24 hours.
Check these photos, then compare and contrast how people from other parts of the world, including our own Mozambique, humanly treated stranded whales in their territories, – saved them, and led them back to the ocean, alive!
