On Thursday, 19th September 2019, His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III JP CFR was hosted by Professor Tony Edward (Dean) and Professor James Skinner (Director) of Loughborough University London.
A public research university which offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree courses in the UK.
A five star university with excellence , Founded in 2013 and has won over 7th Queens Anniversary Prize, awarded in recognition of its impact through research and skills development.
The visit was in continuation of His Imperial Majesty’s efforts at ensuring young Nigerians have access to the best sports education globally.
In the entourage was Hon. Prince Akeem Adeyemi, Bob Olukoya Esq, Prince Hammed Ematuwo, Mr Femi Obasan and Ms Nike Shitta-Bey.
His Imperial Majesty met all the academic staff of the University with the mutual commitment to making Loughborough University London the institution of choice for Nigerian post-graduate students seeking to pursue further education in sports, leadership, entrepreneurship and advanced developmental studies.
His Imperial Majesty disclosed the establishment of a post-graduate scholarship fund to assist young Nigerians to pursue their scholarly dreams.
A follow-up meeting with Nigerian sporting and educational stakeholders is currently being planned in to hold in Abuja, Nigeria before the end of 2019.
According to Hon Akeem Adeyemi (Skimeh) , member of the House of Representatives at Nigeria’s capital Abuja the meeting had far reaching success as they were assured of a robust collaboration with Nigerian universities in the areas of research and development.

“His Imperial Majesty, the Alaafin of Oyo, left the shores of Oyo for his annual holiday in London. In the course of our visit, we were warmly received by some great sons and daughters of Yorubaland living in London. Leading the enthusiastic hosts were Barristers Ahmed Ematuwo and Bob Olukoya.
While in the UK, we visited Loughborough University, a public research university in London.
In 2013, the university won its seventh Queen’s Anniversary Prize, awarded in recognition of its impact through research and skills development. The university is also rated five star for excellence.
Prof Skinner, who is a professor of sport management and Director of the Institute for Sport Business in Loughborough University, was impressed to know that Kabiyesi is an educationist and a sportsman par excellence, who, over the years, owns a football club (Oba Adeyemi FC) and sponsors boxing competitions annually.
As Loughborough University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree courses, we were assured of a robust collaboration with Nigerian universities in the areas of research and development.
Also, the university management promised the Alaafin facilitation of scholarship and admission (postgraduate and undergraduate) for Nigerian students who show interest.”
