Few weeks to the 2019 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari has attributed the massive defections into the All Progressive Party (APC) by members of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the good intentions of the party (APC) towards Nigeria and Nigerians.
While receiving the defectors, the elated President who promised to uphold the trust and confidence reposed on him during the 2015 elections, assured that he will do even more if they cast their votes for him and ensure his victory come February 16th, 2019.
He promised to continue to prosecute corrupt persons who have deprived the people from enjoying good life adding that his administration had so far returned peace to the country especially the Northeast and improved agricultural activities which have reduced food importation such as rice.
The National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said he was not surprised with the massive support the party and its candidates were getting which he ascribed to the programmes and policies of the party.
According to him, the programmes are aimed at uplifting the masses especially the poor coupled with the practical demonstration of the fulfilment of the promises made by the party to the electorates in the country.
In his remarks, the APC gubernatorial candidate in Gombe State, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya assured that the people of the State have embraced APC and promised that they will vote the party candidates from bottom to top.
Earlier at the Palace of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, President Buhari promised to continue to improve on Agricultural sector for the socio-economic development of the country if voted the second time.
He said if the oil and gas exploration in the state is completed, it would contribute to the development of the state and the country in general adding stressing that his administration would continue to work hard in ensuring peace and security of the country as well as fighting corruption.
The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar who thanked President Buhari, also commended him for his contribution to the development of Agriculture, youth empowerment as well as job creation in the country.
According to him, “We are aware of all the efforts that you are making for the development of the Northeast geopolitical zone. Gombe being in the centre, we hope you will consider us in your entire plans”.
While thanking the President for the oil and gas exploration in the State, the Emir call on all Nigerians to do their best in ensuring hitch-free general elections in the country.
The President was in Gombe State on Saturday as part of his nationwide campaign tour where he received some PDP heavyweights into the APC led by the Director-General of the PDP campaign organization for the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Bala Bello Tinka.
Others who were received by President Muhammadu Buhari into the APC were Saidu Umar Kumo, Abubakar Atiku’s campaign coordinator in Gombe State, Jamilu Isiaku Gwamna, a frontline governorship aspirant of the PDP who lost the primaries, a close friend of the President and one time Minister during Buhari’s military regime, Ambassador Yarima Abdullahi.
Others are; the Senator representing Gombe South, Joshua Lidani, Honourable Mohammed Gidado; Abdulkadir Hamma Salleh, former governorship aspirant of the PDP; Dr. Ahmed Gana, Executive Secretary of GSPHDA; Adamu Yaro Gombe, one time PDP Chairman in the state; Abdullahi Jalo, former National Deputy Publicity Secretary of the PDP; Nasiru Gafaka; Garba Barambu; Ibrahim Ayala; Adamu Dishi; Abdulkadir Baba Saleh and Baba Sani Sakali, Gombe State PDP Youth Leader.
