Two in court over alleged theft, receipt of stolen property

The police on Friday arraigned a security guard, Monday Jonah, and a welder, Dominic Amobeda, at the Kubwa Grade1 Area Court in Abuja for allegedly receiving stolen property.

The defendants, residing at Kubwa in the FCT were docked on charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

The Prosecutor, Mr Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that one Ogugwa Ezeaku and Nnama Eguma reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on January 26.

He said that Jonah, 29, employed as a security guard at Emzak Plaza in Kubwa, dubiously stole five Elemax generators from the plaza on January 24.

Olanipekun told the court that the defendant sold the two generators to Amobeda, 42, adding that the offence contravened Sections 289 and 319 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Mr Ibrahim Balarabe, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety each in like sum who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the matter until March 6 for hearing.
