The Alaafin of Oyo His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I has announced setting up a Cultural Centre For Research – a cultural and intellectual hub for tradition and knowledge in Oyo State.

This was disclosed by Kaabiyeesi Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I during a book launch “Know Oyo State”, a resourceful book by the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Dotun Oyelade in Ibadan on Thursday.

Oba Owoade said that the establishment of the centre is vital to connect our generation and the future ones to our roots.
“I’m proud to announce plans for a Cultural Centre for Research and Development a place where scholars, students, and curious minds can explore the rich legacy of the Oyo Empire and help shape our intellectual future”, Alaafin Owoade explained.


At the book launch, Ikubabayeye Oba Owoade I emphasized how vital it is to reconnect Yoruba youth with their roots. This work is more than a book; it’s a reminder of who we are and a tool for rebuilding pride and purpose in our heritage.
As a custodian of culture, Oba Owoade further said that he would be pleased to see our traditions well represented. Noting that Oyo’s influence stretches far beyond its borders, and “we must preserve and study that legacy”.
The proposed Centre is being planned to house works of art, book launching, intellectual and Cultural exchange programs alongside those of scholars like Professors Toyin Falola, Adeshina, and Siyan Oyeweso, voices that carry Yoruba history to the world, according to Oba Owoade.
With over 1,200 schools and half a million students in Oyo State, Alaafin of Oyo emphasized that “this is the time to teach our children their history, to give them pride, clarity, and a deep sense of identity“.
