Role of Olowu in the Restoration of Honour and Unity Among the Yoruba

In a time where discord and misinformation often threaten the fabric of our heritage and values, the exemplary leadership of His Royal Majesty Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, CON, Tegbosun III, the Olowu of Kuta, stands tall as a beacon of wisdom, reconciliation, and unity.

The recent incident involving social media personality Awikonko, and his public apology to His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, serves as a powerful testimony to Olowu’s unshakable commitment to Yoruba cohesion and cultural dignity.

It is no small feat that Olowu, in his usual fatherly and strategic manner, played a pivotal role in guiding Awikonko back to the path of honour. Rather than allow the situation to degenerate into deeper disrepute, Kabiyesi Olowu deployed the timeless Yoruba principles of dialogue, respect for elders, and community healing. He stood firm, not just as a monarch but as a peacemaker, ensuring that the misguided actions of one did not escalate into a wider fracture within the Yoruba traditional institution.

By hosting the reconciliation and allowing Awikonko the honourable space to prostrate, apologise, and seek forgiveness from the Alaafin at the Owu Kuta palace, Olowu reaffirmed the value of Ọmọlúàbí, the Yoruba philosophy of honour, humility, and responsibility. He reminded the public that the throne is not merely symbolic—it is an instrument for justice, correction, and unification.

This act reflects a broader pattern in Olowu’s leadership: a deep investment in the unity of the Yoruba people, the protection of royal integrity, and the careful promotion of peace among both the traditional and modern structures of society. Whether through inter-monarch collaboration, youth guidance, or cultural advocacy, Kabiyesi Olowu of Kuta continues to shine as a true custodian of Yoruba values.

As we celebrate the resolution of this matter, we extend our deepest appreciation to the Olowu of Kuta. May your reign continue to be long, impactful, and filled with wisdom. You have shown once again that Yoruba kingship is not just about crowns and thrones, but about character, courage, and community leadership.

May the ancestors continue to bless your path, and may the Yoruba nation continue to find strength through the guidance of monarchs like you.
