Food Security – A Prime Focus of Government | Deji Ola


 

According to United Nations’ Committee, “Food Securit- FS” is a situation where people at all times, have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their food preferences and dietary needs for an active and healthy life.

Apparently, climate change, insecurity, pandemic, low or no famers motivation, growing global population and environmental stressors are some of the constraints to achieve a standard food security.

There are scores of internationally accepted adaptation strategies and policy responses to global change and this includes but not limited to the following :

-Perfect Water Allocation

-Exceptional Land Use Patterns

-Food Trade

-Post-harvest Food Processing (Importance of Food Technologist can never be over-emphasized)

-Food Prices Regulation

– Government should
always encourage farming and make it number one priority for her citizens. Infact all families, schools must own a farm.

-Farmers motivation is also important.

– Security of lives and properties.

– Strict regulation of industrialization and waste disposal techniques.

-Deforestation should be totally discouraged especially where burning is being employed. In short any act which has tendency of affecting agriculture should be sanctioned.

According to International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) sustainable agricultural technologies should be promoted to ensure outstanding food security.

Above all, the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals handlers have alot to do regarding food security.
