REVEALED: How UCH CMD, Provost, Deputy Contracted COVID-19

Details emerging from the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan confirmed early on Monday how the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Prof Jesse Otegbayo, College of Medicine Provost, Emiola Oluwabunmi Olapade-Olaopa and his deputy Prof Obafunke Denloye contacted the dreaded disease.

A statement by Otegbayo on Sunday had confirmed that the UCH CMD had contacted the disease.

Late on Sunday, a whatsapp message quoted on the social media also indicated that Denloye had tested positive to coronavirus.

Another whatsapp group message from Olapade-Olaopa that confirmed the development read: “Dear colleagues, I wish to inform you that the deputy provost and I tested positive for the COVID-19 following the tests done on Friday. Although we are both asymptomatic, we have gone into self-isolation for the 14 days while our contacts are being observed closely to determine if they should also be tested.”

In the earlier statement by Otegbayo, he confirmed that he and the board members were in a meeting on Wednesday last week when one of the members presented symptoms and his samples later turned positive.

Investigations by OYOINSIGHT.COM, however, confirmed that the Board chairman of UCH, Alhaji Ibrahim Ado Shettima was the person that actually fell sick at the board meeting and later presented symptoms of COVID 19.

Impeccable sources at the UCH confided that Shettima, a former governorship candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 election in Niger State started sneezing repeatedly and was later stabilised by the CMD and others, with the assistance of other board members.

A top source at the hospital who was privy to happenings at the board meeting said: “I can confirm to you the the Niger State-born board chairman of UCH was the person that brought the round of COVID 19 ravaging UCH right now.

“He was at the board meeting with the CMD and his deputy and started exhibiting possible symptoms.of the virus.

“He started sneezing repeatedly and had to be stabilised by the CMD and other top management team members.

“Immediately his samples were taken and the meeting terminated. It turned out that he was positive and then the CMD and others also submitted samples for testing which equally turned positive,” the source added.
