NEW ALAAFIN: LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD

New Alaafin: Let The Truth Be Told.
This new Alaafin-elect is from one of the units within the Agunloye family, which means he is a descendant of Alaafin Amubieya Agogo Ija, the eldest son of Alaafin Adelu Agunloye, who was the eldest son of Alaafin Atiba Atobatele.

ALAAFIN STOOL

The implication of this is that he is a cousin of the Alowolodus and the Ladigbolu-Gbadegesin sections of the Oyo Royal Family, but he is not an Adeyemi or a Ladigbolu/Gbadegesin. For quite some time, ascension to the Oyo throne has been restricted to nominees from those 2 families – Alowolodu/Adeyemi and Ladigbolu/Gbadegesin.

Alaafin Lawani Amubieya Agogo-Ija was the eldest son of Alaafin Adelu Agunloye. Amubieya gave birth to several children, which included Ladigbolu, Tella and Owoade. By selecting Prince Akeem Owoade- Agunloye, it seems that the Governor has decided to remove the restrictions that had prevented the other members of the Oyo Royal Family from ascending the throne. With the appointment of Prince Owoade, a lot of people in Oyo would most likely be in support of the Governor’s decision, which would be seen as fair and just.

By the way, Oke Aremo, in the Yemetu-Igbo Agala part of Ibadan, was named after Alaafin Lawani Amubieya Agogo-Ija. At a point, there was a crisis in Oyo and Amubieya moved to Ibadan where he stayed with Aare Latosisa who gave him the land that we now know as Oke Aremo, which is part of Yemetu and Igbo Agala where Amubieya built a Palace that is still there till today. It is on a hill, very close to the back of the Christ Apostolic Church, Yemetu. After staying at this location for about 6 years, Amubieya moved back to Oyo, where he became Alaafin after the death of Adelu, his father.

The historical information above is very correct.
Alaafin Lawani Amubieya, the eldest son of Alaafin Adelu ruled between 1905 and 1911. This resonates with my lineage of Agunloye / Ladigbolu. There are thousands of Princes over two generations who can trace their identity and claim to the stool of Alaafin since Alaafin Atiba – who started reigning in this new Oyo we have presently.
Very well it is accounted in history that Prince Amubieya sought to stay with Aare Latoosa ( the Aare Ona Kakanfo – head of warriors for Oyo Empire) and settled in Oke Aremo in Ibadan.
We must not forget that every Aremos, the eldest son of Alaafin like Prince Amubieya Agogo Ija of Alaafin Adelu enjoy luxurious and enviable influences across Yorubaland and they were always respected as potential kings (Alaafin).

We must note also that royal descendants from Oyo Alaafin have more presence within Foko axis of Ibadan as you may think because one of Aiyejenku’s lieutenants, Oniyitan Abioko was head of Baba ‘Yaji royal house who migrated to Ibadan and was settled in the present Abioko Compound, Oke Foko by Aiyejenku, according to Mogaji Abioko, Chief Kola Adegoke.

My late dad Prince Oladigbolu was selected by late Alaafin Adeyemi sometimes in 2011 to become Babayaji Royal (Head of Princes). I remembered we almost got to Oyo for the ceremony before we learnt that it was adjourned.

My lineage is, from Alaafin Adelu – Agogo Ija and we are among the descents of Ladigbolus. My great grandfather settled in Ibadan till today and our compounds are at Agboole Omo-loju Alaafin shortened as Ile Omo at Oke Foko, Ibadan, my address still today is SW4/260 Ile Omo, Oke Foko Ibadan where I was born and grew up, the other compound nearby also is Agboluaje Compound in Oke Foko Ibadan.
As a royal Oyo prince, my late grandfather Baba Lasisi Adeleke was the Mogaji of Ile-Omo, Oke Foko in Ibadan.

We must not also forget that female offsprings of Alaafin as Princesses enjoy similar influences in Yorubaland, especially in Ibadan, where Ile-Iba at Oja’ba are also from Oyo Alaafin, but they are female offsprings of Alaafin.
I have been reliably been informed that the political Machiavelli of Ibadan and former Otun Balogun of Ibadanland late Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu was royal Oyo prince.

Oyo Princes and Princesses scattter all over Yoruba cities and town and beyomd the shores of Nigeria.

The Agboluajes family are one of the ruling classes in tbe Republic of Benin and they are Oyo princes.

Historical Facts:

Between 1911 – 1944 during the reign of Alaafin Siyanbola Onikepe Oladigbolu 1, who chose his brother, Owoade to stand in as Aremo to honour him for his affluence and brotherly support given to him to ascend the throne. The Alaafin Shiyanbola Oladigbolu I made Owoade his junior brother from the same mother the Aremo instead of his son with hope that he will become Alaafin after him but unfortunately Owoade passed on before Alaafin Ladigbolu. Everyone would expect that Aremo Owoade should succeed or later become Alaafin but this did not happen as Alowolodus – the Alaafin Adeniran Adeyemi II succeeded the Ladigbolu I and ruled between 1945 – 1955.

Succession has since been between the Agunloyes and Alowolodus as we had Alaafin Mohammed Gbadegeshin Ladigbolu II (1960 – 1968 and Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi (1970 – 2022 and prior to 1970 the Ordinance ortherwise called Declaration was signed to avoid usual succession problems, that the princes from the Agunloyes and Alowolodus will be ascending the throne alternatively. Oyo State Declaration and Ordinances are law and no government has repealed the law as of today.

The Owoades as well are princes descent from Alaafin Agogo-Ija infact the son of the Alaafin Adelu.
In essence all Oyo royal princes are eligible to lay claim to the stool.

There are processes and procedures for selecting and installing new Alaafin.

What is happening now?

The process has not not thoroughly been explored by the Oyomesi and that there are still questions of interests pertaining to credibility of not just the present Oyomesi but the selection procedures itself. Thereby there are issues with the candidate chosen by the Oyomesi that has resulted into court impediments and appeals.

Humm..Before I stop here!

Governor Seyi Makinde has not assented to the named Prince submitted by the Oyomesi and has asked them to go back and re-do the process according to Due process and dilligence. However, no actions appeared taken regarding this as confusions rendered the atmosphere around the selection of new Alaafin

With the announcement made by the Oyo government this week of Prince Akeem Owoade, is seen as a joker.

The Oyomesi is bypassed as they are yet to go back to follow the due process. So Governor was said to have announced Prince Akeem Owoade.

“This is where I have issues with the selection” said, Prince Gboyega Okobiiya Oladigbolu, one of the Princes to the throne.

Prince Gboyega Akee Okobiya-Oladigbolu reacted that:
“It sounds fair to have chosen one from the family but what’s the process, the criteria, can a template come of the process that was used for the selection, can the process be without political influence and can it be tested to be without bias not only for now, can the same process be used in future selection.”

My name is Prince Lashley Kabbir Oladigbolu
