Retired footballers and ex-Nigeria internationals who once plied their trades in Oyo town under Gaskiya FC, Atiba FC, Sharp Shooters FC, Unity FC, Water Oyo FC, Adeyemi FC, Ajisafe FC, Ramblers FC and NEPA Oyo FC have announced plans to stage a football fiesta aimed at reuniting the retired footballers, home and diaspora.
The One day event tagged ‘Sekere Legends Sports Festival’ is scheduled to hold at Olivet Baptist High School Sports Complex, Olivet Heights, Oyo on Thursday, December 22nd, 2022 at 12pm.
According to a statement jointly signed by the conveners, UK based Dentist, Dr. Ademola Adeleke, Coordinator Amotekun Security Corps in Oyo West LGA, Mr. Adebowale Fakayode, Dayo Ojo, Demola Gesinde, Olugbenga Oshibote and the Chairman Hedge Sports Innovations Limited, Mr Olawale Ishola, the one day event tagged ‘Sekere Legends Sports Festival’ will feature two sporting activities; Athletics and Football. Twelve selected secondary schools in Oyo town will be participating in 100 meters and 4×100 meters male and female sprint race in track and field competitions while ex-players of Gaskiya FC, Atiba FC, Sharp Shooters FC, Unity FC, Water Oyo FC, Adeyemi FC, Ajisafe FC, Ramblers FC and NEPA Oyo will trade tackles with Nigeria Ex- Internationals and Ibadan All Stars such as Mutiu Adepoju, Dimeji Lawal, Duke Udi, Dele Adeleye and many others.
“This is the first edition of ‘Sekere Legends Sports Festival’, it’s a way to remember our sports heroes who have done very well as football players but unfortunately they’ve all gone to great beyond like Akinloye Olukokun, Mojeed Azeez, Yemi Ogunwumi, Akano, Bolanle Idowu, Alhaji Moshood Ajisafe and most notably, the immediate past Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.”
“We have decided to select twelve secondary schools in Oyo town that will participate in Athletics. Also, people will have the privilege to see Nigeria living football legends such as Felix Owolabi, Mutiu Adepoju, Dimeji Lawal, Dele Adeleye, Duke Udi, Kola Ige, Kabiru Alausa, and many more. The football event is aimed at evoking fond memories amongst these retired footballers, as well as, encourage better bonding, reigniting friendships, creating business opportunities and grow Goodwill networks.”
The sports festival which is slated to hold tomorrow, Thursday, December 22nd, 2022 at Olivet Baptist High School Sports Complex, Olivet Heights, Oyo is also billed to have upcoming artistes, and DJ.
