UK Coronavirus Death Toll Passes 20,000 amidst A/E admission 50% Drop


  • The number of people to have died in UK hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19 is now 20,319, a rise of 813 from yesterday. This figure does not include deaths connected with the virus in the community, such as in care homes.
  • The confirmed number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 is currently 148,377.
  • The UK is now the fifth country to have confirmed over 20,000 Covid-19 positive deaths.
  • The number of deaths globally is approaching 200,000, according to Johns Hopkins University figures.
  • The NHS has urged non-coronavirus patients to continue to seek the medical care they need after A&E admissions dropped by almost 50%.
  • The prime minister’s chief political adviser, Dominic Cummings, and a data scientist who worked on the Conservatives’ general election campaign and the Vote Leave campaign, Ben Warner, attended meetings of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage). Downing Street confirmed the report, but said they are not members of Sage.
